The leadership structure at Emmanuel is congregational.  This means that the congregation appoints and affirms its leadership. Pastors are chosen in consultation with the Mennonite Conference district minister.

A Church Council oversees the administration of the church.  The Council consists of representatives of church life, such as Christian Education, Elders, Worship Committee, etc.  A Congregational Chairperson and a Congregational Chair-Elect are appointed annually, with the Chairperson leading Council and any church business meetings. We have three elders. The Pastor is in regular consultation with these leaders seeking God's direction and purposes for the church.

Our pastor is Steven G. Schmidt.  He is married to Wanda Ream Schmidt.  They have two daughters, both of whom are married, and four grandchildren.

Hi everyone!

I love being a pastor.  And Wanda and I are thoroughly enjoying the life and the church here in La Junta. I rejoice in how God is at work, drawing people into a deeper love for each other and for Jesus.  I rejoice in how this love is finding expression in service to the larger community. 

I grew up on a farm in Kansas with two brothers and two sisters.  We raised cattle, and wheat primarily, and I still very much enjoy the outdoors.  I marvel at all God has created.  I am amazed by the stars, and galaxies and all that lie beyond.

I graduated from Bethel College, and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.  I enjoy studying the Word of God, and helping people make connections between God's Word and their everyday life.  I enjoy worshiping God and helping people experience God's presence as they worship.

Our church administrative assistant is Brinda DeLeon-Fisher.  Brinda is married to Mark, and they have two boys, Joshua and Kaleb.  You can reach Brinda on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Mornings from 8:00 to 11:00, at the church.
